Weisz was inspired from her aunt Judith for “Hypatia”

Written by admin on 10 Jun, 2009 | Archived under: News & Gossip

Rachel Weisz’ has revealed that her 85-year-old scientist-aunt was the actress’ muse for her role in the new film Agora. The Mummy star said that she sought inspiration from her aunt Judith, and tried inhabiting the expert’s experiences, to portray the character of Hypatia, an astronomer in ancient Alexandria in the movie. “I had one real-life scientist in my world I could speak to, and that was my aunt. She devoted her life to science – she was an endocrinologist, did cancer research, and she never married or had children,” the Telegraph quoted her as saying. “Before I started making this film I said to her, ‘Auntie Judith, why did you never marry?’ “She said, ‘I never believed a man when he said that I would allow me to work as hard as I wanted to, and I realised I loved my work more than anything and I didn’t want anything to get in the way of it,”‘ she added.

Weisz and Aronofsky’s jetset relationship

Written by admin on 4 Jun, 2009 | Archived under: News & Gossip

The Mummy star Rachel Weisz ensures her relationship with Darren Aronofsky thrives all year round by only accepting acting jobs close to where her filmmaker fiance is working. The actress admits she has cut back on her movie workload since the birth of the couple’s son Henry in 2006. And when Weisz does accept a new role, she tries to ensure they are both filming in the same country. She says, “I used to work back to back. Now I do two projects a year and take a big break between them. I have to consider where I’m travelling to if Darren’s going to be working at the same time. “I filmed Agora in Malta for four months, and Darren edited there. I started and two weeks later he came out with his editor. Before that we were both at home in New York. So we’ve managed to keep the family together. And it works.”

Weisz refused nude body double

Written by admin on 29 May, 2009 | Archived under: News & Gossip

British actress Rachel Weisz was determined to shape up after giving birth, so she could strip off for a new movie role. The Mummy star welcomed her first son with filmmaker Darren Aronofsky in 2006 and immediately set about shedding the pounds so she could bare all in upcoming movie Agora. And Weisz had no qualms about the naked scenes, even refusing a body double to step in for her. She tells Britain’s The Daily Mail, “It was all me, (I) never even thought of using a double… I was thinking about baby fat but I think most of it had gone by the time I went before the cameras.”

Stowe captivates Jackman, Weisz and Pattison

Written by admin on 23 May, 2009 | Archived under: Movie News

Actress Madeleine Stowe is to step behind the camera to direct her own movie Unbound Captives – and she has tempted stars including Hugh Jackman, Rachel Weisz and Robert Pattinson to join the project. The Last of the Mohicans star wrote a script for the film in the 1990s but turned down a string of big money offers for the rights, because she was determined to play the lead female role. But now she has relented and sold the script to bosses of another movie production company, who have agreed to let her helm the project. And Stowe is delighted she waited for the right opportunity – as she has already signed up some high profile stars. She tells Variety, “There are moments in life where you need to follow your heart. The script remained my singular focus, but directing it myself wasn’t something I ever dreamed of. “I saw three actresses, and knew after meeting with Rachel that she was the person I wanted to hand this role to. Robert said yes last fall, before everything broke with Twilight. Hugh said yes a couple of weeks ago.”
