Rachel Weisz struggles to remember the moment she won a prestigious Academy Award in 2006 – because she was so heavily pregnant it was like an “out of body” experience. The Mummy star was expecting son Henry when she was handed the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role in The Constant Gardener. Weisz admits the ceremony was extremely surreal – and confesses she can barely recall her winning moment. She says, “My son was born in 2006, so it must have been then. It was bizarre, because I was seven months pregnant, so the whole experience was bonkers. (Winning is) surreal, it’s as if it isn’t really happening to you… it’s very out of body. Anyway, it takes a while for it to sink in. Ask me (what it was like) in another decade.”

Actress Rachel Weisz can’t wait to start filming Unbound Captives with Robert Pattinson – because she’s spellbound by the Twilight hunk. The Mummy star admits she was immediately won over by the movie vampire’s “rebel vibe” when they first met. She tells MTV, “He wasn’t star-struck. He’s got the whole rebel vibe… He’s kind of iconoclastic. He’s flaunting authority. Pretty cool. “Meeting him was vampiric. He sucked my blood!” And Weisz is “very excited” at the prospect of working with her fellow Brit and her other co-star Hugh Jackman. She adds, “It’s a great screenplay, and Robert and Hugh are both great actors.” Production on the movie is set to begin early next year.

Rachel Weisz is bracing herself for an awkward public encounter with her curious three-year-old son – because he’s fascinated by women’s breasts. The Mummy actress gave birth to little Henry – her son with fiance, filmmaker Darren Aronofsky – in 2006, and admits he has developed an early love for the female form. And the star is worried he might get grabby with strangers around. She says, “There’s two things he’s interested in: firemen and women’s breasts. “He just talks about them all the time and he thinks I’ve got the biggest breasts in the world, which clearly isn’t true! He does (talk about them in public) but he’s not embarrassed me yet. Although I’m sure that’s still to come.”

Rachel Weisz has become the first actress to win an acting award named after the late Natasha Richardson at a prizegiving recognising the best in London theatre. The Mummy star received the Natasha Richardson Best Actress trophy for her part in West End play A Streetcar Named Desire at a ceremony hosted by the London Evening Standard newspaper on Monday (November 23). The coveted prize has been renamed to honour Liam Neeson’s wife, who died following a tragic skiing accident in Montreal, Canada in March. Richardson’s mother, veteran performer Vanessa Redgrave, was on hand to present the trophy to Weisz. Accepting the award, Weisz said, “It is even more of an honour because this is the first year that the award has been named after the great and much, much-loved Natasha Richardson.”
Stressed parent Rachel Weisz

Rachel Weisz admits motherhood makes her want to “scream”. The Lovely Bones actress – who is engaged to director Darren Aronofsky – says being a parent to three-year-old Henry is “delicious” but admits she needs her friends for support when family life gets too stressful. She said: “I think one of the things that mothers aren’t allowed to talk about enough to one another… is the times when you’re pulling your hair out at home with the kids. “Those moments when everything is crashing in and you feel like you’re going to scream. “It doesn’t make us less good or less human, just real. I think there is sometimes too much pressure on us to be perfect parents, to be empathetic and loving all the time. Every woman needs a good girlfriend to be able to turn to and say, ‘I just can’t deal with it all today.’ “Because even though children are the most precious things in the world, they are also sent to test us. I think women are already stretched and pressured to be perfect, and it kind of drives me crazy.” Despite her confession, the 39-year-old star says she has “never been happier” since having Henry and claims he has improved her life in so many ways. She added to Redbook magazine: “I find I can get a lot more done since I’ve had Henry. Suddenly, in 45 minutes, you can get twice as much done as you once did. I’ve become a lot more organised. “And I’m a much happier person since I’ve had Henry, and much more balanced. I feel I have an ultimate purpose beyond anything else in my life.”
