Weisz & Fiennes Reunite for “Page 8″?

After working together in Fernando Meirelles’ 2005 drama The Constant Gardener, it looks like Rachel Weisz and Ralph Fiennes will be back on screen together again. The Daily Mail reports screenwriter and playwright David Hare (The Hours, The Reader) will direct the duo in Page 8, an espionage thriller which he also wrote himself. Though a logline isn’t given, the title refers to the eighth page of a highly classified, secret document, which will likely drive most of the characters’ motivations throughout the film. This also stars Michael Gambon (The Book of Eli), Bill Nighy (Pirate Radio) and Judy Davis (Marie Antoinette). In the BBC backed thriller Nighy will play an MI-5 operative who believes Weisz’s character poses a threat to him while Michael Gambon plays the director general of the Security Service. It’s unclear what roles Fiennes and Davis will be taking, and while the thriller will certainly be grounded in reality, Hare was quick to point out that the story is completely fictional and no characters in the film represent anybody in real life. Part of me wonders if this is simply a way of getting around the fact that this may have actually been inspired by some sort of espionage story in the headlines of UK papers similar to how episodes of Law & Order technically aren’t representative of real people or stories. Either way, with a cast like this, it’s a film to keep our eye on

New Details on Malick’s New Drama

posted by admin on October 16, 2010 under Movie News with 0 comments

There isn’t really much, and what it is isn’t significant, but considering that his fans are often an information-seeking group, this will have to do for now. First, Barry Pepper has joined the cast which already boasts Ben Affleck, Javier Bardem, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams and Rachel Weisz. His character is said to be a priest, as is Bardem’s. How this could tie into the “romantic drama” aspect of the story is anybody’s guess, but one could posit some theories as to its role in the film. That’s all for now, but it’s certainly better than the straws we’ve been grasping at looking for details on this movie’s production.
